Bonnechere Valley mayor back in Renfrew warden’s chair

Jennifer Murphy said she’s excited to be back in the warden’s chair for Renfrew County.

She said she last served in the position from 2017 to 2019, and was recently re-elected by her peers on County council.

Murphy has served as the Mayor of Bonnechere Valley Township since 2010.

She said she is excited to serve as Warden again and pick up where former warden Peter Emon left off.

“Most recently there has come to light, in Whitewater, that there is an untapped magnesium mine,” Murphy said.

She said there could be an industrial park there, which would support production at Magellan Aerospace in Haley, in alignment with the provincial priority of using our own domestic mineral aggregates.

She added that the county’s budget will be tabled on Jan. 29 and part of the county’s focus right now is on keeping up with infrastructure needs, which is also a concern at the township level.
