Madawaska Valley transitioning to Circular Materials recycling regime

As of the beginning of 2026, managing recycling in Ontario is the responsibility of “Circular Materials”, and Madawaska Valley will be transitioning to their new system.

The organization states that it is committed to advancing a “circular economy”, in which recyclable materials are collected and returned to the original producer for use in new products and packaging.

CEO Allen Langdon said among the positive features of the new system is a unified material list.

“Some of the additions to that list starting on January 1st will include things like hot and cold beverage cups such as coffee cups, deodorant and toothpaste tubes, ice cream tubs, black plastic containers as well as frozen juice containers.”

As part of the Circular Materials transition, curbside recycling pickup at residential properties will no longer be handled by the Township in the new year.

Circular Materials encourages residents who receive curbside pickup to contact Miller Waste about recycling as of Jan. 1, and more information is available on the Township website and the Circular Materials website.

More details to come about recycling management for non-residential properties and properties that don’t receive curbside pickup.
