67 impaired charges in OPP Eastern Region Festive RIDE campaign

Police say they continue to find impaired drivers across eastern Ontario.

East Region OPP say 67 people have now been charged with impaired driving since their Festive RIDE campaign began three weeks ago, including 18 in the past week.

There have been over 800 Festive RIDE programs set up during that time with police checking drivers to ensure they were not impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Each of those drivers charged with impaired had their license suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven-days.

They also all have scheduled court appearances.

Officers have also issued 15 three-day licence suspensions for drivers who were found to be in the warn range on an approved roadside alcohol screening device.

The campaign runs until New Year’s Day.
