Fire chief says recent wildfire the largest seen in a century

Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade said the recent wildfire near Wilno in the Hopefield area was the largest fire they’ve seen in the area in over 100 years.

He said the fire burnt a total of 106 acres.

Quade said the fire was put out on Saturday, but cannot be declared fully out until three days after the last of the smoke and flames are extinguished.
