Local snowmobile clubs are working on trails

Snowmobile clubs have been out on the trails, getting ready for the time when there is enough snow and it’s safe to get out there.

The Moose spoke with Steve Lang from the Maple Leaf Snow Skimmers Club about the process:

“We’ve been doing some packing which is a technique to drive the snow into the ground and to create some frost and create a good base, and then if we get some new snow on top of that we can start grooming.”

Lang also said, if we get some more snow he hopes that the trails could be open as early as next week.

While people can look forward to snowmobiling soon, the OPP are reminding snowmobilers to stay off frozen waterways, which unseasonably mild temperatures have made particularly unpredictable and unsafe throughout the province.

“Safe and responsible snowmobiling means not going out if there is any doubt about whether it is safe to do so.” says Rohan THOMPSON, the Deputy Commissioner of OPP Traffic Safety, going on to say:

“This cannot be overstated where frozen waterways are involved, which are never guaranteed to be 100 per cent safe.”
