Snowmobilers passing through a busy trail intersection near Barry’s Bay will notice a new feature this winter.

A new warming shack has been added where trails B and B-102 meet.

Several Madawaska Valley-area businesses contributed labour and supplies to get the shack up, as part of an Opeongo Snowbirds Snowmobile Club project.

Among the businesses were Burchat Homes, Yantha Backhoe and Trucking, Murray Brothers Lumber Company, Jason’s Top Hat and Tales Inc., Bancroft Roofing, Clinton Roche eXp Realty, and Nature of Design.

Jeff Burchat, of Burchat Homes, says the project speaks to the lengths the business community will go to support snowmobilers, knowing that their travels are important to economic growth in the region.

Burchat says the roughly 10-by-16-foot shack is an important safety feature, as   snowmobilers often need places to rest and warm up as they travel.

While the construction work is, for the most part, done, it won’t likely be used by snowmobilers until January, when the snow is thick enough for the season to begin.
