The number of fans that are coming out to Madawaska Valley Wolves games has been a pleasant surprise to players.

The new Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League team beat the Gananoque Islanders on Saturday in front of several hundred fans, who packed bleachers at the Paul. J. Yakabuski Centre from end-to-end. The two previous home games were similarly well attended.

Wolves defenceman Adam Pearson said he and his teammates didn’t realize they’d be playing in front of such a strong fan base, but they’re glad they are.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “That’s why we play. It’s all about the crowd. That’s why we’re here.”

The Wolve 7-3 win over Gananoque gives them a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 overtime loss so far this year. Their next home game is Saturday night against Deseronto.
