Killaloe ready for big Canada Day bash

Canada Day is coming up and a big party is planned in the little Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards.

The event includes a rubber duck race at 2 p.m. People can sign up with the municipality to get a duck, which will be dropped in Brennans Creek.  The top three ducks to finish the race downstream will win prizes for their owners.

The event also includes music at St. Andrew’s Catholic School, starting at 3 p.m.

Community Development Coordinator Chris Neff says people come from far and wide for the Killaloe celebration.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on our Canada Day (celebration). Our fireworks are, typically, some of the best around,” says Neff. “Everyone supports community events. People come out from all over the place for, particularly, the fireworks but also the music. It’s something we like to do. Historically, Killaloe has always been big for events and we try to keep that tradition alive.”

The fireworks show takes place at St. Andrew’s school at dusk, but it will only happen if the fire ban has been lifted by then.
