The search for the two missing Royal Canadian Air Force members has concluded.

Defence Minister Anita Ananad confirmed in a news conference on Wednesday the two members were killed in the crash.

Anand says the other two crew members were treated for minor injuries on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended his condolences yesterday to the families of the RCAF members killed in the crash in eastern Ontario.

Canadian Forces officials say the twin-rotor helicopter was on a training exercise when it went down into the Ottawa River, near a military base in Petawawa.

Trudeau says he’s keeping all of the members of 450 Squadron in his thoughts.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is extending his condolences to the families of the Royal Canadian Air Force members killed in a helicopter crash in eastern Ontario.

Trudeau says the RCAF helicopter crashed into the Ottawa River, near a military base in Petawawa, but didn’t specify exactly how many were killed.

There were four people on board but the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

Trudeau says he’s keeping all of the members of 450 Squadron in his thoughts.

‘Prayers of nation are with you’, MP to RCAF families 

Meanwhile, Renfrew County’s representative in Ottawa says the entire military community in her riding is feeling the effects of the helicopter crash that occurred near CFB Petawawa. 

Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MP Cheryl Gallant stood in the House of Commons Tuesday to acknowledge the early-morning crash, which sent the Chinook chopper into the Ottawa River. 

Two RCAF crew members were found early Tuesday and taken to hospital. Two other missing crew members were the subject of a search through Tuesday. 

“To the families of the 450 Chinook Helpicopter Squadron and the families of the air crew, the prayers and the best wishes of the nation are with you at this time,” Gallant said.

Search efforts are underway for two Royal Canadian Air Force members involved in a helicopter crash in eastern Ontario.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says their helicopter crashed into the Ottawa River, near a military base in Petawawa.

The RCAF says four of its members were on the helicopter at the time and were on a training flight.

Two were later found and transported to the hospital in Pembroke with the other two still missing.

Trudeau says he’s keeping all of the members of 450 Squadron in his thoughts as search efforts continue.

He’s also wishing a fast and full recovery to the injured.
