The growing sport of pickleball is about to have a stronger presence in Barry’s Bay.

A report going to Madawaska Valley council on April 4 says the township is working with a local group to bring the paddle sport to the Paul J. Yakabuski Centre during the summer.

Pickleball is played on a court with a net and it combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Township recreation coordinator Hannah Gutoskie says lines to play the sport will be drawn on the rink’s surface, when the ice is out. She also says the township may sponsor clinics for people who want to give it a try.

The new feature, she says, meets the Townships’s desire to see the recently refurbished community centre used even more.
