Madawaska Valley is exploring new ideas for Lakeshore Park.

Council on Tuesday received a report outlining new concepts for the popular spot, located on the shores of Kamaniskeg Lake in Barry’s Bay.

The plan was shared by Beacon Environmental, a firm hired last year to look at the park.  It says that aging play structures, the unsightly nearby sewage treatment plant, the abundance of geese and the lack of shade are among the issues that need to be addressed.

The report lists several new ideas and the costs for potential new items, such as a plaza, a performance stage and basketball and volleyball courts. Expansion of the beach and new greenspace and planting improvements are also options.

The cost for every possible addition could total more than $2.2 million dollars, so Beacon encouraged council to think about how much it wants to spend over the next term to improve the park.
