You’ll be able to get rid of some trash this weekend in Barry’s Bay.

Madawaska Valley is holding a Hazardous Waste Day on August 27th from 10 AM until 4 PM. It’s happening at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre at the Yard 1 Municipal Garage. The event is open to residents of Madawaska Valley Township only.

Accepted materials include aerosol containers, fire extinguishers, mercury devices, toxic materials and empty oil containers. Paints, stain, old medication, propane tanks, old medication, used oil and oil filters, as well as all types of batteries will be accepted.

The township says unknown waste will not be accepted. Other materials not accepted include PCB contaminated, radioactive, pathological, medical, commercial or industrial wastes. Explosives will also not be accepted.

All liquid waste must be dropped off in a non-returnable container. If possible, materials should be left in their original container. Staff urge people to pack items securely in their vehicle to avoid mixing or spilling. Hazardous waste will not be collected curbside.
