Don’t forget about the pooch during hot weather, long weekends

You’re being urged to plan ahead and keep your animals safe as you enjoy the Civic Holiday long weekend.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society says hot temperatures and busy holiday activities can be overwhelming, or even dangerous, for our furry friends.

As part of their annual No Hot Pets campaign, the Ontario SPCA is urging everyone to take precautions to make sure their animals stay safe.

If you’re going camping, officials say you should keep your dog leashed at your campsite and provide constant access to water and shade, and never leave them alone in a tent, camper, or vehicle.

Anyone who sees an animal in distress is asked to call the government’s provincial animal welfare services or your local police.
