30 Years Of Memories https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/16077/local-connections/30-years-of-memories/ Fri, 01 Feb 2019 21:07:20 +0000 https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/?p=16077

30 Years Of Memories

All it took was one look.  One look onto Spectacle Lake for the Mahussier’s to realize they were home.  After that first look, 30 years of Memories, Friendships and a true sense of Community was built.

Sharon Mahussier and the wonderful staff at Spectacle Lake Lodge look to make your stay as enjoyable as possible 11 months a year. (They are Closed through November)
The view is spectacular.  It’s one of the many reasons why Spectacle Lake Lodge hosts weddings and receptions, special functions, family birthdays, Anniversaries and many large celebrations.

Through the years, Spectacle Lake Lodge have given back to the community with sponsorships of local youth sports teams, aiding in the funding of youth academics programs, and supporting other local businesses.  After many years of working together, Sharon is proud to call most of the business owners in Barry’s Bay friends rather than business associates.

Many visit to ride the trails on their A.T.V’s or Snowmobiles, depending on the season.

But the real joy is knowing that your visit can include experiencing the Spectacle Lake Lodge along with many of Barry’s Bay’s local attractions and many more seasonal activities.  There’s never a dull moment from beautiful sunrise to sunset.

And when dining, there is no better experience than The Lakeside Smokehouse.  Many culinary students have honed their craft in this very kitchen.  Along the way, each head chef has left their influence on the next, but with change comes new ideas and creations that you can order from the menu. The Lakeside Smokehouse is ready to serve Lodge guests and locals every day of the week, at fair prices.  Even the Chinese Food Buffet is an event to be experienced.  Ask for the next Chinese Food Buffet date at the time you are making your reservation.

It’s the hope that everyone who visits Spectacle Lake, falls in love with the scenery, the nature and the community, just as the Mahussier’s did 30 years ago.
It was the goal of Sharon’s late husband, Maurice, to be a resort owner at the age of 45.  He set his goal. They lived their dream. An exciting, beautiful dream Sharon continues to share with any visitor to Spectacle Lake Lodge today.
Come see for yourself.  You’re sure to return again, and again…    and again.

Madawaska Valley Fire Department’s – Fire Safety for Seniors! https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/14694/local-connections/madawaska-valley-fire-departments-fire-safety-for-seniors/ Fri, 07 Dec 2018 18:24:10 +0000 https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/?p=14694

Madawaska Valley Fire Department’s – Fire Safety for Seniors!

Seniors choosing to live in their own home are the most vulnerable when it comes to house fires! Which is why the Madawaska Valley Fire Department wants to help educate you and your loved ones on how to keep everyone, especially seniors, safe!

As we age, people develop weaker physical (and potentially mental) capabilities making it harder to identify and respond to fire. The best way to ensure yourself and the seniors in your life are safe is to help develop proper safety measures.

Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms save lives! Having smoke alarms installed and maintained correctly in homes could very well be the difference between making it out in time, or not at all. Here’s a few important facts to remember about smoke alarms!

  • Install a smoke alarm on every level of the home – it’s now law in Ontario!
  • Test smoke alarms on a monthly basis
  • Replace alarm batteries at least twice a year
  • If your smoke alarm “Chirps” replace the batteries right away
  • If you or your loved one is deaf or hard of hearing purchase smoke alarms that flash or vibrate

Escape Plan

We all need up to date escape plans to fit current capabilities. Make sure everyone has updated these plans and practice them.  Here are a few things to keep in mind when updating escape plans!

  • Make sure there are two ways out of every room
  • Keep hallways and stairs uncluttered
  • Call 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house, and avoid going back inside the home
  • If you can’t leave on your own, still dial 9-1-1
  • Keep a phone beside your bed! Along with anything else you might need like shoes, house keys, glasses, and a flashlight

Smoking

Careless smoking is a leading cause of fire deaths for the elderly. If your loved ones smoke, remind them to avoid doing so in bed. Encourage them to soak the ashes in water before discarding of them and avoid leaving smoking essentials unattended! For added safety encourage them to use large ashtrays with deep sides.

Cooking

Cooking fires are the number one cause of fire injuries among seniors. Remind loved ones and remember these important steps when cooking!

  • Never leave cooking food unattended
  • If they do need to step away, turn off the stove
  • Keep a fire extinguisher on hand and check the pressure gauge monthly
  • Avoid loose clothing that could easily catch fire
  • Keep towels and potholders away from the stove
  • Clean the exhaust hood and duct over the stove regularly

Heating

While heating your home is completely normal, there are safety precautions the elderly should take in order to avoid potential fire hazards. They include...

  • Having the furnace and chimney inspected by a professional at least once a year
  • Keeping newspapers, rags, and other combustible materials away from their furnace, hot water, and space heaters
  • Watching for electrical overload signals including dimming lights when they turn on an appliance
  • And never using their oven as a heater if their house feels too cold or the furnace goes off

It’s An Emergency!

House fires can still happen anytime, anywhere. But, with proper education and practices, you’ll be better prepared to handle them. Now that you know everything you need to help keep the loved ones in your life safe, it’s time to get to work!

7 Reasons Why Local Connections Is A Great Way To Reach Your Business Goals https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/14352/local-connections/7-reasons-why-local-connections-is-a-great-way-to-reach-your-business-goals/ Fri, 23 Nov 2018 16:16:58 +0000 https://www.mybarrysbaynow.com/?p=14352

7 Reasons Why Local Connections Is A Great Way To Reach Your Business Goals

Every business operates with the same basic principles. While you might differentiate in product or strategy, all businesses need to be constantly evolving, adapting, and growing to meet your customers’ needs. In everything you do, you want your business to reach your audience, to expand your clientele, and to grow your customer base. Sponsoring a Local Connections article on this website can help you do just that and here’s why:

1. Provides An In-depth Educational Opportunity

Your message can include many more details in comparison to a banner ad or a radio spot. Each of these options provides significant benefit to your advertising strategy, and Local Connections is a great complement to them. The article is where you can expand on the message of your ads, broaden your scope and dive into the details while creating a new link to your community. Without time or space constraints, this is your opportunity to fully educate your audience.

2. Establishes Trust With Your Audience

This format isn’t an overt advertisement. Instead it encourages a connection with your audience. While your business will be featured prominently, the content is not directly about you. Instead, it’s all about your audience. As such, the content is very benefits-rich. By focussing on the benefit to the reader and helping solve a problem they have, it builds trust between your business and the reader. In this way, when they’re in need of the type of service your business provides, they’ll be coming to you because trust is a powerful influencer. It’s also an indirect, subtle selling point that you can’t just advertise. Trust is something you have to create.

3. Enhances Digital Brand Awareness

Local Connections provides a platform for your business to showcase itself online. In an increasingly digital world it’s important to have a digital presence. From social media to websites to sponsored content, it keeps a business’ brand current and relevant. Your content on Local Connections will live online permanently under your brand. This is an opportunity that is different from all other forms of marketing. Because the cost of a digital article is one of the few options not based on duration, the value of your Local Connections article will continue to build over time as it is a permanent part of our website.

4. Supported With Radio Spots

Not only do you get a permanent branded article on our website, but you’ll also receive on-air spots to drive traffic to it. The radio spots keep your company’s brand fresh and top of mind while also getting listeners to go online to the article where they are again interacting with your brand. Best of all, you get to decide how much frequency you want for your radio spots, based on your budget.

5. Supported With Social Media Posts

In addition to the aforementioned Radio Spots, you will also get supplemental social media engagement from our stations so your brand will reach our entire online community as well. Each week for four weeks, you’ll receive one social media post driving traffic to your article. Taken collectively, the Local Connections article, radio spots, and social posts provide a comprehensive marketing package that reaches different audiences in different ways while consistently putting your brand in front of listeners and viewers.

6. Allows For A Visual Showcase

While radio is known as the “theatre of the mind,” physically putting your brand in front of our listeners’ eyes provides an entirely new and different opportunity to connect with them. A digital article can contain images, logos, videos, and more – all optional media assets that you can share. A balance of text and visuals allows your brand to not just tell its story, but to show it in a simple, concise, and attractive way that is engaging to your audience.

7. Provides Measurable Results

Using analytic tools, we’re able to see and track digital traffic. We can monitor how many visitors come to our site and how much time they spend on it, all of which translates into value for you. The time that is spent on our site proves that our audience is taking the time to read your article which means they are learning about you and your brand on Local Connections.

Local Connections is exactly that: your connection to your local community. If you’re ready to accomplish your business goals contact us today to get started on your Local Connections article. We’re excited to help you reach your audience and grow your clientele in a new and innovative way.
