Extreme cold warning issued across in Madawaska Valley

An extreme cold warning is now in effect.

Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures to dip down to minus 25 degrees tonight, with wind chill values in the minus 40 range. The temperature will be even colder tomorrow night. The cold weather is expected to linger until Sunday.

Because of this, Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says it’s important to cover up, and dress for the occasion.

The Renfrew County District Health Unit says wearing synthetic or wool clothing will help keep you insulated when it gets cold out. If you get wet, you’re being encouraged to change into dry clothes as soon as possible to help conserve heat.

Meanwhile, Peterborough Public Health recommends rescheduling outdoor activities when it’s very cold, especially in the evening.

Environment Canada also reminds you that if it’s too cold for you outside, it’s too cold for your pets.
