Organizers of the much-requested roast beef dinner at the ANAF Unit 378 in Maynooth said recent nasty weather hasn’t stopped the fundraiser.
Volunteer Deb McDonald told Vista Radio they used generators and started cooking the roast beef Friday morning, after the Thursday night storm led to power outages throughout the region.
Volunteers have been out in full force ensuring it still goes ahead, including Mike Henrickson, a 92-year-old veteran, who McDonald calls their “best potato peeler”.
The meal, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., features roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and dessert.
“We are take out only. We are going to drop the price to $20 for the full meal.”
McDonald said they normally have a fish fry, however, there was a big demand for her husband’s roast beef.
Stuart McDonald, the “head cook, bottle washer and president” of the local ANAF, was happy to help make it happen.
Next month, they will return to the fish fry format.
McDonald said with many residents still without power, they are welcome to a hot meal at the ANAF.
