Fifty-five households in Renfrew County were homeless on October 27, 2023.

The number was unveiled by the County, following the release of its point-in-time count on homelessness.

Staff involved in the study picked a random date to base their findings on.

Of these 55 households, more than half said they were in the Pembroke area.

Also, more than half said they were experiencing chronic homelessness, meaning they’ve been homeless for more than six months.

The majority of those who said they were homeless were between ages of 30 and 64. About a quarter were aged 16 to 29.

Renfrew County’s Housing and Homelessness department conducts the study annually, to gather data which helps it develop more services, such as shelter and affordable housing projects.
