A survey being circulated among social agencies is helping to determine the exact number of people in Renfrew County who are homeless.

Jennifer Dombroskie, Manager of Housing and Homelessness, says results will help officials develop more services to support the unhoused, such as shelter and affordable housing projects.

The survey seeks to determine how many people were without a home on Oct. 27 this year.

Dombroskie expects this year’s numbers will be up from last year, when the survey found 43 people in the County were homeless on Sept. 18, 2022.

“This data will be used to determine, has anything changed,” she says. “And it will be used to determine, are the people identified on the survey already connected with services.”

“To have one person be unhoused is a problem. Ultimately, we are looking to eradicate homelessness.”

Dombrowski says the survey is available from Renfrew County Community Services. The department can be reached at 1-866-897-4849. Dombrowski says she hopes to release results at a committee meeting in mid-November.
