Green Party Candidate Ian Pineau says he wants to push a new green economy.

Pineau says he is running in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke because he was disappointed and angry at the lack of recognition of the crisis that we’re in. He said he was inspired to run when change didn’t happen as fast as it needed to. He also took issue with the lack of electoral reform and the handling of the SNC-Lavilin affair. He also says the planet is going down a path that will lead to more that 2 degrees in warming.

Pineau says that Everything relates to climate change, and says he considers it both a challenge and opportunity. He says the Green Party would implement a national building retrofit which would create thousands of jobs across country and in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke. He says this would create economic growth, lower costs, create efficiencies, and reduce emissions. He also says that the demand for trade work would need a investment in education, and so unburdening kids from educational debt would be key to this.

Pineau says he believes this can all be funded through fair taxation. He says he advocates eliminating fossil fuel subsidies and putting that money towards national pharma-care, making life more affordable. He also says the Green Party would subsidize better financing for first time home buyers, implement a guaranteed livable income, and transition workers out of the fossil fuel industry. Pineau says the greens would also close tax loopholes for the uber rich, shut down off-shore tax havens and tax big banks and data collection companies. To combat the immediate effects of climate change, Pineau says the Greens would accelerate reforestation and remap the rivers to take into account new flood plains. He says the Greens would also uphold treaties with native Canadians and implement clean drinking water for all native reservations.

Pineau says in conclusion that the Greens have the most visionary platform of all the parties. He also says that the Greens have a chance to shape policy on Parliament Hill in the event of a minority Government. He also reminds voters that Canada is an wholly owned subsidiary of the environment, and that we don’t have a planet B.
