Madawaska Valley residents have mixed feelings about whether or not local grocery stores should sell alcohol.
This comes as the province has announced 87 more stores that will be able to start selling beer, cider, and in some cases wine, in April. None of the grocery stores in Madawaska Valley have made the list so far.
Moose FM took to the streets to find out how some residents would feel if stores in the area started selling beer, cider, and wine.
The province says stores that are allowed to sell alcohol were selected through a bidding process with the LCBO. Grocery store owners in Barry’s Bay have said that they haven’t applied to get alcohol in their stores because of proximity to the LCBO and Beer Store, as well as the size of their buildings being too small.
The closest communities to Barry’s Bay with grocery stores that are allowed to sell alcohol are Petawawa and Renfrew.
