Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health is as ready as it can be for marijuana legalization.
That’s according to Program Manager Ricardo Almeida, who says public health has been preparing for provincial pot legislation. This comes as it’s set to be legalized nation-wide this summer.
Almeida says the health unit will be working with local municipalities to help them reduce the legislation’s impact and introduce their own pot bylaws.
Almeida says the health unit will also be involved in promoting public awareness about laws related to the recreational use of marijuana.
The health unit will oversee enforcement when it comes to medical marijuana. Prescription pot users will have to follow the same rules as smokers in Ontario, including that they will not be allowed to smoke inside public spaces.
