The Madawaska Valley Falcons have ceased operations for the remainder of the 2017-2018 Canada Premiere Junior Hockey League season.
Gary Medwid, President of the Madawaska Valley Falcons, says that this comes after Head Coach Norm Maracle left the team after Sunday’s game and took some players with him.
Maracle, who is now taking on a position with the Grey Highlands Hawks, says that he didn’t tell any players to leave with him and that they followed him after he left. Maracle also made mention that he had known most of the players before this season from former teams.
Stephane Laveault, President of the CPJHL, says that Maracle had contacted him last week about not being paid by the Falcons. Laveault says Maracle told him he would leave after Sunday’s game if he wasn’t paid.
While the team will not participate in the rest of this season, Medwid says they fully plan on being back on the ice for the 2018-2019 season.
Medwid says he has no doubt that the Madawaska Valley deserves and can support junior hockey.
The Falcons also say they will honour all of this year’s season tickets and refunds can be discussed.
The team has posted the release to its website.
