OPP Sharing Tips To Help Avoid Identity Theft

As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, the OPP are reminding people to be aware of identity theft and fraud.

The OPP says that typical identity theft cases include situations where government documents such as driver’s licenses, health cards, and Social Insurance Numbers are stolen or forged.

The OPP says tips to avoid identity theft include being wary of e-mails, phone calls or mail asking for personal and financial information.

In 2016 alone, there were nearly 10,000 complaints of identity theft in Canada, totaling over $12 million in financial losses.
