Local Health Unit Helping Reduce Injuries to Seniors During Fall Prevention Month

November is Fall Prevention Month and our local health unit is helping seniors, their families and caregivers prevent falls.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit says 1,800 seniors end up in emergency rooms in the region every year due to injuries caused by falls.

The health unit has come up with a checklist to identify risks and is advising seniors to discuss them with their doctors.

Exercising – where possible – can improve strength and balance and the health unit offers a number of programs locally to help reduce the risk.

The fall prevention checklist can be found here and fall-prevention exercises can be found here.

The RCDHU offices can be contacted at (613) 732-3629 in Pembroke and (613) 432-5853 in Renfrew.
