Whats happening in the region on Canada Day

From boat parades to playground celebrations, a lot is happening in the area this Canada Day.

Here’s a look at some events in our area:

Madawaska Valley

Canada Day celebrations will take place at the Barry’s Bay Legion, with kids’ events from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., including face painting, kids’ bingo, and cornhole.

Live music will run from 1:30 to 7 p.m., featuring Gillan Rutz and Cori Coulas.

Wilno

Celebrations in Wilno will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kaminiskeg

Fireworks will happen over Kaminiskeg Lake at dusk on Canada Day.

South Algonquin

The Madawaska Recreation Committee will be hosting a celebration featuring live music with Jim and Friends, a BBQ from 3-6 p.m., kids games, fun at the beach and fireworks that start at dusk “bring chairs, blankets and your Canada Day spirit”

Bancroft

The Town of Bancroft will be hosting its annual Canada Day festivities in Riverside Park, with live music beginning at 12:30 p.m. featuring The Salt Cellars, Reg Corey, Kirk Bates, and Noah Zachary.

An added celebration this year includes the official recognition of the new fully accessible playground during the opening ceremonies at noon, with remarks by Kim Bishop on behalf of MPP Rick Bresee, along with town officials.

The North Hastings Heritage Museum and the Gem and Mineral Museum will be open with free entry.

The Art Gallery of Bancroft will be open 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Canada Day.


Boat Parades

Annual boat parades will be taking place on both Paudash and Baptiste lakes. On Baptiste, boats will gather at Paradise Landing to head out at 1 p.m. On Paudash, boats will gather at the base of Joe Bay and head out at 1 p.m.


Apsley

The Apsley and District Lions Club Canada Day Parade starts at 4 p.m. at the Apsley Public School.

Following the parade, festivities will continue at Lions Park until 6 p.m., featuring games, activities, and the popular Lions food booth — a wonderful way to come together and celebrate Canada Day as a community.


Cardiff

The Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at 273 Monck Road. Cost for adults is $5.


Highland Grove

From noon until 3 p.m. at the Kidd School House Museum (5373 Loop Road), there will be a BBQ, kids’ crafts, local entertainment, and the museum will be open.


Foster Lake Canada Day Fundraiser

Festivities start at 1 p.m. and include a dunk tank, BBQ, DJ John Hales, games for kids, and more. All proceeds will go toward the Foster Lake rink.


Wilberforce

The Wilberforce Red Cross Outpost Museum will be celebrating with “a day full of history, heritage, and hometown pride!”

Bring your friends and family for:

  • Flag raising ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

  • Museum tours throughout the day

  • Homemade sandwiches and cake

Donations welcomed and appreciated.
