Topics covered include introduction to hospice and palliative care, grief and bereavement, spirituality and ethics and advanced care planning.
Jenna Stamplicoski, Coordinator of Volunteers and Bereavement Services, told MooseFM that there are many different ways to help out in the organization.
“Volunteers look like everyday people. We offer a variety of tasks and a lot of people think it’s just holding the hand of someone who’s actively dying, but there’s so much more to it than that. We have people who go into homes and visit with caregivers and the patients…(and more).”
Stamplicoski said that other roles include providing caregiver relief, so that caregivers can have support, as well as a variety of shifts at the 3 Hospice apartments.
“There are lots of different shifts available for people” says Stamplicoski. “So you can really volunteer as much or as little as you want.”
The hospice training sessions take place April 2, 4, 9 and 11th from 8:30-3:30.
