Injured Hiker airlifted from Frontenac Park Sunday evening

An injured hiker had to be airlifted from Frontenac Provincial Park Sunday evening.

Around 3 p.m., Kingston Fire dispatch was called to ‘locate and assist’ for an injured hiker in the park.

Emergency services responded and used the ‘What 3 Words’ phone application to pinpoint a location in the park on the Slide Lake loop trail.

The hiker was approximately seven kilometres in with a broken leg.

First responders were able to reach the hiker and administer ‘stabilizing’ care.

Due to the severity of the injury and the distance from any trail head, Frontenac OPP members helped to get a search and rescue helicopter from 8 Wing Base – Trenton to airlift the patient out of the park.

The hiker was taken to the hospital around 8:45 p.m. Sunday evening.
