Madawaska Valley is celebrating an outstanding senior.
At a recent council meeting, Mayor Mark Wilmer announced that Leah Kinghorn of Barry’s Bay is the township’s ‘Senior of the Year’ for 2024.
The Ontario Senior of the Year award is given annually by a municipality to recognize an “outstanding senior” who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural or civic life of their community.
Kinghorn has served as President of the Opeongo Seniors Centre for over a decade. According to the township she has been a driving force behind bringing seniors together in the community and reducing social isolation in a post-covid world.
