Deer Hunting starts this week

Deer hunting season started on Monday and continues until Nov. 17.
It’s the season for valid card holders to hunt white-tailed deer.

According to the Ontario government, hunters must have an outdoors card, a deer tag, or be party hunting with a person who has a valid deer tag or additional deer tag.

The deer tag included with the purchase of a deer licence  is valid for one “antlered deer “, which is described as a deer with at least one antler of at least 7.5 centimetres long.

Those hunting with a gun must have proof of firearm accreditation. It is illegal to carry a loaded firearm in a vehicle. It is also illegal to shoot from a vehicle or discharge a firearm across a road or trail. Hunters must also wear orange.

Hunters are encouraged to tell someone where they will be hunting and when they will be returning, know the weather conditions and dress accordingly as well as carry a survival kit and a small first aid kit with you at all times.

You can find more information about deer hunting season and safety here.
