Combermere’s Tyler Seto takes home 3 Silver at Special Olympics

Combermere’s Tyler Seto won three silver medals at the Ontario Special Olympic Spring Games in Waterloo.

Tyler represented Eastern Ontario along with several other athletes from the region. His dad Kim Seto, says that individuals in the Special Olympics each compete in four events.

“In three out of those four events he won a silver medal” said Seto, “Which was, from my standards, pretty good” he said, with a laugh.

Tyler won a silver in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Tyler’s Dad says this is the first time his son has competed in six years, and the first time in Ontario, where he says the competition is much tougher than in Nova Scotia.

They relocated in 2018.

Tyler showed promise at a young age.

“He loved the water, so we got him swimming lessons and eventually he started competing in swimming in the Special Olympics.”

After Tyler’s win was posted on Facebook, messages of heartfelt congratulations poured in. Tyler, who works at Metro in Barry’s Bay, is a much-loved area local.

“They all know Tyler. He loves to chat with people, he’s very friendly, he’s very soft spoken.”

Kim Seto says that, depending on the season, they make weekly trips to Arnprior, where he can train at a regulation size pool.

Video of Tyler swimming the butterfly at the Special Olympics is on the Combermere bulletin board Facebook page:
