To help celebrate a special guest is coming to Barry’s Bay.
Witold Dzielski, the Polish Ambassador to Canada, will attend a Polish flag raising event at Zurakowski Park this Friday.

Park committee chair Tom Vlasic says everyone is welcome.
He spoke with My Bancroft Now about the day and why it’s important to recognize,
“The federal government has declared May Polish Heritage Month. Janus Zurakowski, who is the reason that we have Zurakowski Park, being a Polish son. We now have the Polish Ambassador coming to our town to raise a Polish flag in honor of Polish Flag Day, which is May 2,” explained Vlasic.
“All of this has been put together by the committee and we are inviting everyone to come on out and enjoy.”
Vlasic says that plans for the ambassador’s visit came together relatively quickly.
We asked him if he was surprised that Dzielski and his delegation were able to attend,
“Yes, but we have a number of members on the committee, two of which are expatriates, and one of which, I believe, is well connected. And is also a very enthusiastic member of this society and his heritage, so is happy to support”
On February 7, the House of Commons recognized the significant contributions Polish Canadians have made to Canadian society, economy, politics, and culture.
“From now on, May 3 of every year shall be the Polish Constitution Day,” it was stated in a February press release. “And the month of May, every year, the Polish Heritage Month.”
The Polish flag raising event will take place Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Janus Zurakowski Park in Barrys Bay. It is scheduled to run 45 minutes.
