After eight years with Bancroft’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, one service dog has retired.
Conservation Officer Colin Cotnam says Tanner, a 10-year-old retriever mix, has helped cut down search time for evidence, people, and trespassers.
He also received a lifesaving award for finding a woman lost in Silent Lake Provincial Park.

Tanner started his time with the MNRF in 2008 after being rescued from a shelter in Greater Sudbury.
Last Thursday was his final day on the job, and he will spend his retirement with Cotnam.
