Renfrew County’s MP hopes an Algonquin Park trail will be named to honour a “trailblazer.”
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke’s Cheryl Gallant paid tribute to Tom Stephenson at a recent House of Commons sitting.
Stephenson died in March at age 86. He was a professor at Algonquin College and, Gallant said, he was instrumental in creating an outdoor component to the school’s forestry program.

Gallant called Stephenson a “real-life trailblazer” and said she hopes the park will re-name Cheater’s Trail after him. She said Stephenson worked to clear that trail, so people could access the remarkable High Falls.
