Madawaska Valley holds first council meeting, back-up mayors assigned

Madawaska Valley council had its first real meeting of the new term Tuesday, and it lasted just six minutes.

The meeting was to pass quick bylaws to allow business to take place this term. Some of the bylaws assigned councillors to various municipal committees. But, one thing to note from one of the bylaws is that Coun. David Shulist will be the acting mayor in 2023, if Mayor Mark Willmer becomes unavailable to carry on his duties.

The back-up mayors for the three subsequent years of the term, will be Councillors Shelly Maika, Mary Blank and Joseph Olsheski, respectively.
