Some generous people in Palmer Rapids clearly have the heart of lions.
The Palmer Rapids and Area Lions Club has donated $3,000 to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation. The money was raised through their annual summer raffle, which coincides with the Palmer Rapids Twin Music Festival.
Of the donation, $2,000 will go toward the Tree of Lights Campaign to raise money for an ultrasound at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. And $500 will help purchase special kitchen items at Valley Manor. And the final $500 will go to Madawaska Valley Hospice Palliative Care to help train new volunteers.
Ace is still up for grabs
In other Foundation-related news, the Ace of Spades is still up for grabs in the popular lottery program.
The Week 5 winner is Bill Ferguson of Killaloe, who took home $805. The Week 6 winner is Florian Zelney of Killaloe, with a prize of $755.
But in both cases, when the weekly winner turned over a card, the Ace of Spades didn’t turn up, so the jackpot will get bigger. It’s now at about $8,300.
The lottery is helping the foundation raise money for local health care needs. Tickets, for $5, are available at several Barry’s Bay-area stores.
