Municipal Election Day is, officially, on Monday, Oct. 24, but the voting process has already started in several small Renfrew County communities.
In the Township of Madawaska Valley, which includes Barry’s Bay, there’s a mail-in voting system. Ballots have been sent out and can be returned by mail. But they can be delivered in person to the town’s office at 85 Bay Street. They can also be dropped off at the Yakabuski Community Centre on Oct. 24 only.
Neighbouring municipalities, such as Killaloe Hagarty Richards, Brudenell Lyndoch Raglan, North Algona Wilberforce and Bonnechere Valley, also have mail-in systems and the process is underway. Residents there can check their municipality’s website for specific details.
Other municipalities are going electronic. For instance, Greater Madawaska is doing away with paper ballots and is doing online and telephone voting only. Its voting period opened this week and runs to Oct. 24.
Laurentian Valley is also promoting phone and telephone voting, with the voting period starting Oct. 14. But paper ballots will be available on Oct. 24 at the town office.
