The puck will drop for the 2019 Mineral Capital Cup hockey tournament this Saturday.
It will all go down at the North Hastings Community Centre starting at 8 AM and going until 7 PM. âThe tournament is one of the many new efforts being implemented by the Bancroft & District Minor Hockey Association as part of the associationâs renewed perspective on offering affordable, sustainable, and team-focused minor hockey programming for Bancroft-area youth,â the BDMHA says.
This year the change is that the tournament is being run for the Atom and PeeWee rep teams, says Marc Gibson, the tournament convenor for the Mineral Capital Cup. Teams from Barryâs Bay, Huntsville, Tweed, Otonabee and Douro will be participating. Gibson says teams have actually had to be turned away because this change has been so popular.
There will be four teams competing in the two divisions. âItâs going to be very competitive hockey,â Gibson says.
The BDMHA will be fundraising at the event as well. There will be raffle tickets on sale along with a 50/50 draw. A silent auction table will also be set-up. Prizes were donated by the NHLâs Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators along with local and regional businesses and individuals.
The tournament is free to attend, but participation in the fundraising events is encouraged by the BDMHA. For the tournament’s full schedule, click here.
