Home Sales in Renfrew County Were Strong Over the Summer

Home sales in Renfrew County were strong over the summer, and hopefully that momentum continues into the fall.

That’s what Kim Bourne, the President of the Renfrew County Real Estate Board, is saying as the fall season approaches. “We’re doing quite well, I think, in Renfrew County,” she says.

Home sales hit a 6 year high in July with 157 homes being sold. That’s a 15.4% increase from July of last year and also the highest July sales month since 2012. The 157 sales totaled $41.5 million in value, which is a 35.4% increase from July of last year.

August didn’t do as well. Home sales were down 4.2% at 136 homes sold. The average price of homes in August was $236,399, which is up 7.1% from from last year. It The total value of the homes sold was $32.2 million, which is up 2.5% from August of last year. It’s also a new record for total home value in August. Bourne added that listing in August were at 800, which is down 12.7% from last year. It’s an 8 year low, she says.

Overall, 1,033 homes were sold over the first eight months of the year, which is down 1.5% from the same period last year.

Bourne says she’s not surprised by sales over the summer. Real estate is goes up and down all the time, she says. She added that she anticipates the market to be strong in the fall, but tail off as the winter season kicks in.
