UPDATE: Search Underway for man Missing in the Barron River

UPDATE, 09/18: The body of 37 year old male of Petawawa has been found. An autopsy on the deceased’s body will be done to determine the cause of the death.

Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are searching for a Petawawa man who went missing in the Barron River.

Just after 1 PM yesterday, Upper Ottawa Valley OPP were sent out to the section of Barron Lake in Laurentian Hills, about 3 kilometres west of Black Bay. This came after a male went into the water from a boat, but didn’t resurface.

The 37 year old man from Petawawa had been travelling in a boat with two other men when he jumped into the water without a personal flotation device. The two other men weren’t able to find the man and 911 was called.

The OPP’s Aviation Unit responded to the scene in a helicopter along with vessels from the OPP’s Marine Unit and the Garrison Petawawa Fire Department. The area was searched, but the man was not found.

The search continued today with the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit joining.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
