The Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre will be closing its doors for the summer.
Almost three years ago, the Township of Madawaska Valley received $126,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to operate the fitness centre for a two year period. The township partnered with Madawaska Valley District High School to provide the area with the fitness centre.
However, between the grant now being complete and a lack of attendance, the fitness centre doesn’t make enough money to operate without additional grant funds. Because of this, the fitness centre will close on June 29th, the same day as MVDHS closes for the summer.
The township says staff will continue to apply for grant funding and will work towards a new partnership with the high school with plans of bringing athletic programming back in the fall for residents.
Any members of the fitness centre who have memberships purchased past the closing date will be refunded for the remaining days.
