Township searching for correct shade of white to paint Railway Station railings

The railings at the Railway Station Tourism Centre will be repainted, but the right colour of paint just needs to be found first.

This comes after workers at the Railway Station repainted the railings in preparation for the facility’s annual opening during the May long weekend. However, it was painted a different shade of white than it was for years beforehand.

Madawaska Valley Mayor Kim Love says she’s now turning to the public to help find the proper paint shades for the Railway Station.

Love says she’s been searching for the proper paint colour, but because of records being updated at the hardware store, they no longer have the exact colour used on file. She also notes they were painting it to preserve some of the wood on the railings. Love says she read on social media that the building had been designated as a heritage building in 1996 by the former Village of Barry’s Bay, but she can’t find any documentation of it.

Love also says there’s no plaque at the Railway Station that indicates it’s a heritage building, or any heritage registry from the former village. She says if she can’t find any proof of designation during her search, she can recommend to council to designate it themselves.

If the correct paint colour is found, Love says the Railway Station’s railings will be repainted in 2019. If you think you know the exact colour the railings used to be, you’re being urged to contact municipal staff to let them know.
