Madawaska Valley’s Mayor has some concerns about the municipal cost of legalizing marijuana.
Mayor Kim Love says that while the training costs for OPP officers to detect impairment by cannabis will be covered by the province, municipalities will still likely see a rise in their policing costs.
Love also says that legalizing cannabis could raise some questions about municipal by-laws as well, including those about public no-smoking zones.

Love says Madawaska Valley currently only has one part-time by-law officer, but that may need to change when marijuana becomes legal.
