For the third year in a row, Hastings Highlands’ request for provincial funding to help with road repairs has been denied.
The municipality says it will not be getting a $1.7-million Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund grant to put towards the Highway 62 Revitalization Project. Mayor Vivian Bloom says this is unfortunate. Bloom says staff is working hard to understand why the project wasn’t selected for funding and what needs to be done to get it in the future.
Operations Manager Adrian Tomasini says the municipality will now have to fund much needed repairs to the 46-year-old road. Tomasini says that’s why they were included in a five-year road capital needs plan.
Tomasini says the municipality will start repairing the highway between Maynooth and Maple Leaf next year.
Treasurer David Stewart says the highway’s needs will continue being addressed in future operating and capital budgets.
