Police Contacted After Scam Attempt

Police are reminding you to be careful when giving out information over the phone.

This is the message from Renfrew OPP after an elderly man received a call from a scammer last week. Police say the scammer told the man he was a lawyer and that his grandchild had been involved in a car crash before asking the victim transfer money to them.

Police say if a caller insists on privacy and tells you not to talk about it, they could very well be a scammer. Residents are urged to call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 if they believe they’ve come across a scam.
