Chamber of Commerce to break even in 2018

The Bancroft & District Chamber of Commerce has a number of initiatives planned for 2018 to increase revenues.

That was the message during today’s Annual General Meeting.

According to a report by its auditor, the chamber has managed to reduce its operational losses by more than $27,000 year-over-year in 2017. While losses still sit around the $20,000 mark, the auditor also reports the chamber could break even during this fiscal year.

Treasurer Lee Bay says the reduction in losses can be attributed to fewer expenses. Bay also says past operational losses were largely because the chamber owned the Bancroft Railway Station, which has now been acquired by the town.

General Manager Greg Webb says one of the chamber’s biggest focuses for 2018 will be on member retention.

He also says new businesses in the area are also welcome to sign up to the chamber.

Webb says the chamber is also working to expand this year.

Although he would not confirm specifics, Webb says the chamber also has a number of events planned for this year.
