With a municipal election just months away, Hastings Highlands is letting you know how to run.
The municipality says the first step is to submit a nomination paper to the municipality in person or through an agent. You’ll also need to prove that:
– You’re a Canadian citizen and a Hastings Highlands resident.
– You’re at least 18 years old.
– You’re legally allowed to vote and hold office.
– You have 25 signatures supporting your bid.
The cost to run for mayor is $200. It costs $100 to run to be the deputy mayor or a councillor.
You have from May 1st to July 27th to submit your nomination papers, at which point you can start campaigning. But, Mayor Vivian Bloom says this year’s campaign period will be very short.
Bloom says the municipality is also being very progressive in how residents can vote.
This year’s election will also be the first without wards. You can vote between October 9th and the 22nd. Click here to find out more.
