Renfrew Warden steps up for Eastern Ontario

The Warden of Renfrew County is stepping up to represent 750,000 taxpayers across rural Eastern Ontario.

Warden Jennifer Murphy, who is also the Mayor of Bonnechere Valley, has been elected as the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus 2018 Vice-Chair. United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Warden Robin Jones was also voted in the chair. EOWC members vote on a new chair and vice-chair every year.

Murphy will now be taking on the role of making sure the caucus’ two priorities for 2018 move forward. The first is to support a nearly $300-million proposal which would improve cellular and broadband services across the region. The second is implementing an Eastern Ontario Economic Development Strategy, meant to secure financial support from the province, and address economic development needs. This would be the first regional plan of its kind in Ontario.

Murphy says improving cellular and broadband services is not only essential for business and economic development, but also to improve public safety for residents and first responders.
