Bancroft OPP will be out on local snowmobile trails making sure you’re obeying the law.
After two snowmobiling-related deaths in the area last winter, Constable Philippe Regamey says police will be out enforcing the laws that keep you safe.
Regamey says drinking or using drugs and sledding can affect your decisions and slow down your reaction time. Because of that, he says officers will be targeting impaired drivers on trails.
Regamey says police will also be on the lookout for those speeding on their sleds.
Police will also be checking to make sure you’re riding with a valid driver’s or motorized snow vehicle operator’s licence, and that you have a permit, insurance, and licence plates. Disobeying any of the laws related to snowmobiling can lead to fines.
Regamey also wants to make sure sledders have spare parts, rope, cellphone battery packs, matches, lighters, paper, snacks and water with them. He says you should keep your phone charged and close to your body to keep it warm, so you don’t drain the battery.
