Fire Chief Stresses Importance of Knowing Your Way Out

After a fatal house fire in Oshawa on Monday, a local fire chief wants you to know your way out in case of emergency.

Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade says that everyone in your family should know and practice an escape route in your home before a fire happens. Quade also says that your escape route should take less than 60 seconds to ensure everybody can get out as safely as possible, and that all exits aren’t being blocked.

He’s also reminding residents to make sure they have an appropriate amount of smoke alarms in their home including at least one on each level of the house, and one outside of each bedroom.
