Hastings Highlands Operations Manager wants you to respect snowplows

With the current cold snap expected to end on Sunday, flurries and snow begin to pop up in next week’s forecast.

With that in mind, Hastings Highlands Operations Manager Adrian Tomasini says it’s important to respect snowplows on the road when you notice their blue flashing lights. Tomasini says drivers should never pass a snowplow, even if they think it’s going slow.

He reminds drivers that road conditions in front of the plow will always be worse than behind it.

Tomasini says drivers should always leave a safe distance between themselves and the back of the winter maintenance vehicle.

Tomasini says plows may also need to stop and back up on municipal roads, so it’s important to give them space.

When approaching an oncoming snowplow, Tomasini recommends slowing down well in advance, and moving over to the right side of your lane.
